Hue is a full service creative marketing agency offering brand strategy, campaign management, media planning, and creative development and production for all things digital - print, web, and video.
Using a holistic approach, we create big ideas guided by defined business goals and successful marketing strategies. These ideas are implemented with innovation and visual excellence through our creative process.
Why Hue? Defined as form and complexion, hue is subtle yet essential. This idea articulates the agency's motto: visual excellence is achieved through a process that is executed with a defined purpose. The result, although subtle, is fundamental to it's strength.
How it began. Camila Hoffman, formerly art director at A|X Armani Exchange, formed Hue as a full service boutique marketing agency in 2005.
As the art director for A|X Armani Exchange, a global fashion company, Camila Hoffman participated in the worldwide repositioning process of the brand including the redesign of the corporate logo. She created the design concepts for every season and managed their deployment into all mediums including: print, web, instore, and events worldwide. She worked at A|X Armani Exchange headquarters in NYC from 2000 until 2005. From there, she formed her creative agency Hue, and continued designing for A|X Armani Exchange for many years after.
Camila Hoffman notes: "in a world saturated by advertising and imagery, it is important to get back to basics - to the core concept. This method has allowed me to create ideas without boundaries. It's about creating something that has purpose, not just a product without meaning."
Since it started, Hue has been part of many influential local projects including the Hart of BC Project, Wedding Gown Preservation, 20 Hawley, PAST, e-Systems Group, and R Wells Gallery to name a few.
inspiration. since I was a young girl in Rio de Janeiro Brazil, I have always been inspired by music, dance, and fashion. after arriving in the US, my interests only grew stronger, leading me to NYC to attend Parsons School of Design.
implementation. during my studies, I explored various areas of communication design including packaging, typography, and motion graphics. Although these mediums varied drastically from one another, one thing remained the same, the beginning stage. the beginning determines everything for it is a foundation to building the core message and image that you are trying to convey. it’s about what you are trying to say, and how you are going to say it.
throughout my design career, I have stayed true to this design process. this has led me to develop great design. in particular, I hand-crafted the A|X Armani Exchange logo font. I remember thinking: 'I want a font that is classic, but modern, serif but at the same time clean like a sanserif....' so I created my own.
for me, it has never been about what has been done before. even though current as well as things of the past can be inspiring.
this created in me the desire to start my own design company. this has been a great experience, giving me opportunity to work with a variety of clients, each presenting a new challenge - keeping me excited about the process of design and looking forward to what is next.
Peter Hoffman, joined the agency in 2006. He is the perfect compliment for this partnership. While Camila's main focus and background is on branding, print, marketing, and corporate identity, Peter's expertise is in all things dealing with digital innovation including: web design, social media, programming, apps development, SEO, animation, and mobile deployment.
in Peter's words...
"during my education, I was involved with music, philosophy, dance, art, and teaching. learning how the movement, the thought, the words, the sound defined the space around it, inspired me. watching how people interacted with defined space fascinated me. wanting to create, I discovered the digital world that has become an inspiration to me, because of the creative potential."
"to make the web designs I envisioned, I began with Flash. the best part about Flash is that the creative possibillities are endless and consistently delivered. but, the deployment possibilities can be limiting. this has pushed me into the world of CSS, HTML, and javascript, which allow for creative designs to be seen on more devices. "
"along with this, SEO and Google Analytics have enabled me to streamline designs for search engines and user interaction - making the web a powerful tool for businesses."
Peter believes any design is possible. He concludes: "it's more about finding the right design. staying current with the progress of technology has enabled me to implement my purpose and stay inspired."
inspiration. growing up in texas and upstate new york, as well as traveling to over thirty states and several other countries, the different cultures and environments of the places i've been have shown me feelings of people, places, and experiences. these feelings are stored as images and inspiration in my memory. besides pushing me to see the world and striving to continuously expand my experiences, my visual interest led me to binghamton university to study design. throughout my studies, i have also found inspiration in both viewing and creating fine art, as well as learning more about people, thoughts, feelings, and interactions while studying psychology.
implementation. i've always been an observer, fascinated by the images of the world and the stories they told me. in preschool, i was the child telling my classmates stories from my favorite books. though i had not yet learned to read, the pictures always carried the message for me. when i create, my mission is to make my designs carry messages like the images i've always seen, making them beautiful and meaningful. i try to explore as many media as possible, always growing in fine arts as well as in the use of design programs and technology. every approach adds a new perspective and adds to my design process. i could make an elaborate drawing and doodle ideas all day, but ultimately the right design carries its message in the simplest form, without anything extra getting in the way.
